AQUIS

When Marmi Regina called me, I had the opportunity to see the variety of stone materials they work with and the precision of their work. The technical skills are at a high level and attention to detail is fundamental for them. The company expressed the desire to create small-sized furnishing objects that could tell the potential of their production. With this project Marmi Regina wanted to show their ability to assemble different stone materials into a single object.
I was struck by onyx, by its translucent appearance and, therefore, by the way it interacts with light. This characteristic could become the fulcrum of the interaction with another stone material. In fact, the thinner onyx becomes, the more transparent it is.
Thus was born the idea of using onyx as if it were a “liquid”: pairing onyx with a marble, starting from a certain thickness and reaching zero. The visual effect is similar to that of a beach seen from above: offshore the sea is a deep blue color and becomes lighter and lighter as it gets closer to the shore, until it becomes transparent.
Materials: calacatta marble, green onyx.
